It is certain that Sony Interactive Entertainment will be leaving its empire that is PlayStation 4 as the victor to the Xbox One. However, while Sony continued to sell millions of units during the previous console cycle, Microsoft has been developing its own video game subscription service allowing players to own a library of titles without needing to pay out of pocket for each entry. But even then, Sony was already miles ahead with the founding of PlayStation Now in 2014.

Despite that, however, Microsoft illustrates to be the more effective of the two. In September of this year, it was revealed that Microsoft’s Xbox Game Pass service overtook 15 million active users – a feat unheard of after witnessing the sales projections for its hardware. But despite Sony pushing the 100 million mark in units sold, its in-house service only treads over 2.2 million subscribers as of May this year.

Acknowledging the impact Xbox Game Pass has left, it would be considered Sony to combat that with PlayStation Plus Collection for PlayStation 5 owners. However, Sony Interactive Entertainment President & CEO Jim Ryan tells the firm is working on a response to the business model.

There is actually news to come, but just not today. We have PlayStation Now which is our subscription service, and that is available in a number of markets.

While Ryan does leave PlayStation owners anticipating what is to come, he does not directly elaborate on what is to come or even when. Similarly, Ryan does the same when questioned about games to define PlayStation 5 will arrive in the same interview – only giving a 2022 release window. “But it’s probably 2022 that you’re going to see some wonderful things,” he tells.

Dissecting how Microsoft overtaken a field Sony entered first, Rectify Gaming issued an editorial discovering that Sony fell flat due to prioritizing first-party releases where the platform had the opportunity to come out successful with a ration virtually 3:1 in its user base. What are your guesses as for what Sony will bring to the table against Xbox Game Pass?
