Upon entering a new console generation – either being the Xbox Series X|S or PlayStation 5 – a new threshold for high-intense gaming is being established. That means higher resolution, faster load times and increased performance. Already, we witness select titles implement this with the launch of the new console hardware and updates for previous games are being issued as we speak.

Leading to the release of the Xbox Series X & Xbox Series S, developer Rare unveiled a dedicated update for the next-generation machines will be available at launch for Sea of Thieves. Already, the game does face a slight touch up on the updated Xbox One X system, but not to the likes of what is capable for the latest units.

Now on top of the update for the now-current systems, Rare has slipped in 120 frames per second support in its latest update for Sea of Thieves.

On the Xbox Series X console, a performance mode is available supporting 120Hz at 1080p. Some TVs do not support 120Hz and HDR simultaneously, so HDR may need to be disabled from the Console Settings.

The information is discovered from the latest release notes for the recent update that shipped on Thursday. In that, Rare implements the first season of content for Sea of Thieves which restructures how in-game additions are distributed for the game. Now, the title is much in line with how a live service title is structured in terms of its downloadable content.

As for 120 FPS integration, Xbox Series X|S continues to be an easy avenue for developer to support in recent weeks. While it is certainly obtainable on PlayStation 5, developer Psyonix tells that a “port” is more in line for how the process is done to make possible on Sony’s machine.
