Currently, developer Tango Gameworks is occupied with the development for its newest property yet, GhostWire: Tokyo. And although the game is still uncertain for its release, there is some direction to anticipate when it could ship. In that, one PlayStation 5 promo listed the game to be delivered sometime in October 2021 later this fall.

But, the firm could potentially be returning to The Evil Within. In a new discovery on Trademarkia, and tipped by SomosXbox, the trademark for the series has been update. Filed back in August 2020, the trademark has been adjusted for “continued-use”, the filing reads. However, that does not signify what the future plans for the IP is as of writing.

Previously, it was reported that The Evil Within director Shinji Mikami would take the helm as director one more time. His only exception is to let Mikami have full creative control of the project if greenlit. Mikami at the time of the report did not disclose if he plans to pursue another The Evil Within game or an entirely new IP.

More interesting for a new The Evil Within would be the absence of Lead Art Designer Ikumi Nakamura. After working on the first two games, Nakamura in the midst of development for GhostWire: Tokyo announced to be leaving Tango Gameworks. In March, Nakamura announced to be opening her own independent game studio yet fails to issue what the first project will definitively be.

On the more general consensus surrounding Tango Gameworks, Xbox lead Phil Spencer is ecstatic to welcome the Japanese developer to the Xbox internal network of studios/ Spencer at the time stated “I can’t wait to spend more time with the Tango team and get to know them.” You can read the full report by heading here.

Are you hopeful a new The Evil Within game is on the way?
