In the ongoing campaign for more video game-oriented entertainment to hit the mainstream, Netflix is not withholding any efforts it appears. More specifically, the firm is working in close ties with Ubisoft already evidently. In that, the streaming service unveiled both Splinter Cell & Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon anime series earlier this month. However, there is still more underway from the partnership as well.
Previously, it was reported that Ubisoft is working closely with Netflix to create a Beyond Good & Evil film with Detective Pikachu director Rob Letterman to be helming the new production. But, it does not just end there. Later on, it was also disclosed that a live-action television series based in the Assassin’s Creed series is also on the way. Despite a prequel short film and motion picture starring Michael Fassbender in 2016, another go at the franchise is underway.
According to a new report from Variety, Die Hard screenwriter Jeb Stuart is to join the new production to pen the script for the upcoming Assassin’s Creed Netflix show.
We really were excited about him because he’s part of the Netflix family already. He’s got a breadth of knowledge when it comes to history, so he is the right person, we felt, because he really understands historical drama, and we think he’s going to be a great asset to the ‘Assassin’s Creed’ universe.
Danielle Kreinik, Ubisoft Film & TV Head of Development
Previously, Stuart is also recognized for his work in penning the story for Netflix’s Vikings: Valhalla, a follow-up to History Channel’s Vikings. Currently, Stuart is the only confirmed individual for the Assassin’s Creed Netflix series with little detail still withheld from disclosing much further on the production.
In terms of other Ubisoft productions on the way, the upcoming The Division film adaptation is expected to be pressed upon in the coming year. Another feature to be available on Netflix, Ubisoft recently mapped out the motion picture to be elaborated on entering into 2022 alongside a new game, The Division Heartland.
