For more than a decade, Daedalic Entertainment has be a co-developer/publisher. The German firm has operated as much rolling out mainly point-and-click graphic novels including the Deponia franchise, The Dark Eye series, and State of Mind. Most recently this year, Daedalic Entertainment finally rolled out The Lord of the Rings: Gollum after years of development and continuous delays.

However, the game was met with critical reception namely due to the numerous issues that plagued the game across consoles & PC. However, after this latest hit the Daedalic Entertainment earlier in 2023, it is confirmed that the team is shifting its focus solely on publishing moving forward. When speaking to GamesWirtschaft, it is confirmed the internal studio will close affecting 25 of the 90 employees at the team.

“We value each and every member of our team and it is important to us that the transition goes as smoothly as possible. Therefore, we will support our former employees in finding new opportunities within our network,” a representative of Daedalic Entertainment gave for a statement to the publication.

In 2022, Daedalic Entertainment was acquired by Nacon. The firm held a relationship when The Lord of the Rings: Gollum continued to be pushed as the firm established a co-publishing deal with Nacon. Currently, the next Deponia title ‘Surviving Deponia’ is in development with external team AtomicTorch Studio which will not affect the progress for the newest entry.

Previously, Rectify Gaming spoke with State of Mind game director Martin Ganteföhr, he explained Daedalic Entertainment gave him the freedom to explore themes he wanted to feature in the new story. “With companies willing to look into these projects could change humanity greatly, even immortality being an idea and that’s worrying. This is the sort of world that State of Mind is currently in and experience it as someone who’s greatly effected by it.”

What is your take on Daedalic Entertainment closing its internal developer?
