Remedy Entertainment during its recent launch of Alan Wake II faced a wave of praise for the game’s release. And although the game has yet to break even since launch, there is a demand for more follow-ups to the firm’s roster of properties. Already, it is confirmed that Remedy Entertainment & Rockstar Games is partnering for a Max Payne duology remake.
In more recent developments, the Finnish game studio elaborated that the scale for Max Payne in these new endeavors will be at a large scale. What’s more is that the budget for both Max Payne remakes are to face a similar budget to Alan Wake II. Amid the wait, spiritual successors did arise from fans hungry for games that share the same experience.
Hence El Paso, Elsewhere. Launched in fall 2023, the game rose to acclaim for its tasteful inspirations pulled from Max Payne in a new take on the bullet time subgenre. The game was even nominated for awards at the most recent BAFTA in 2024. It is now reported that El Paso, Elsewhere is facing a new deal for a live-action film.
From Variety, it’s reported that LaKeith Stanfield (Knives Out, Uncut Gems) is set to star in the new video game picture. Alongside being in front of the camera, Stanfield is to also be a producer on the film as well. Additionally, Colin Stark (Yasuke) is to produce with Stanfield under the Di Bonaventura Pictures banner.
“Recovering from a toxic relationship, James Savage (Stanfield) confronts both his inner demons and enigmatic ex-girlfriend, Janet, before she executes a world-ending ritual, per the film’s official logline,” a synopsis for the film reads. “James navigates her reality-bending universe of ethereal monsters while facing the truth of his own addictions and skewed sense of self-worth. James learns that the only route to love is through healing.”
