Japanese publisher Capcom is sinking its hooks into transmedia releases for the next year. Already, its partnership with Netflix is preparing the soon release for Devil May Cry. Another production with Castlevania showrunner Adi Shakar, it schedules to arrive April 3rd. Additionally, a Street Fighter film is also on the way with a March 2026 release officially set for the live-action film.
Another IP from Capcom is Resident Evil. While the 2021 film alongside the 2022 television series failed to grab the attention Capcom was hoping, there is still drive for another go. In February, The Hollywood Reporter disclosed that a new effort is on the way with Sony Pictures’ PlayStation Productions banner including Barbarian director Zach Cregger attached as well.
In a new development from Deadline, the Resident Evil film is moving forward internally with a proper release date now scheduled. From Sony, it is confirmed that a September 2026 box office release is set for Resident Evil. With Cregger in the director’s chair, more names are also attached to the new video game adaptation from the report.
Vertigo Entertainment is to produce alongside Constantin Films & PlayStation Productions. Roy Lee (Barbarian) and Robert Kulzer (Monster Hunter) are attached as producers.” I’ve been a rabid fan of these games for decades, and to be able to bring this amazing title to life is a true honor,” the director Cregger told Deadline. Kulzer adds: “The world of Resident Evil experienced through Zach’s vision is an irresistible feat.”
Sony Pictures Motion Picture Group president Sanford Panitch also injects: “Zach is one of the most talented exciting new directors to come on the scene in many years. His brilliant approach in restarting and refreshing this legendary Sony franchise instantly makes this one of our most important releases in 2026.”
