Apex Legends Season 26 – Showdown Ships With New Permanent ‘Wildcard’ Game Mode And Revamps Re-45 Into A Energy Weapon

The range for Apex Legends has been propelled immensely thanks to the greater Titanfall universe that it was birthed from. However, despite the close ties, the battle royale has not been doing so much in recent time. Earlier this year, the game arrived with a new update in the shape of Season 25 – Prodigy which introduced the newest Legend to the game, Sparrow.

However, as for other major additions, it has been a fairly light update for the game. The most notable came in the form of ‘Future Icons’ which arrived not too long ago. The limited-time event featured Arena duels alongside major changes to both Sparrow & Wattson. Believe it or not, there was an announcement by Nintendo. At its Partner Direct, Apex Legends for Nintendo Switch 2 is scheduled to release this week.

Alongside the new version of the battle royale, there is also a suite of new additions coming to the game as well in the next season, Season 26 – Showdown You can watch the gameplay trailer in the video below:

“With a mode as fast as this one, there’s just no time to loot—especially if you get that one squadmate who needs to spend the first ten minutes going through every bin. Wildcard’s about getting you into the match, trying things out, and building your Apex confidence all at the pace of Octane,” the description for new game mode Wildcard reads.

“With a map built for movement, you won’t want to stand still. Get those guns ready and be prepared for battle around every corner, and after every revive.” Wildcard is said to also feature unique weapon leveling; kitted weapons; respawning; self revive kits.” There is also a major change to one weapon: the RE-45. The auto-pistol will be receiving a new ‘Elite Weapon’ tour which transforms it into an energy burst pistol.

“Also being introduced this season are Elite Weapons: the firepower you know and love from Ballistic’s personal armory, so expect the unexpected with these variants. In the case of the RE-45, this little number becomes a pocket-sized mini-gun with its spin-up, three round bursts and the type of damage that only energy ammo can satisfy. Good things do come in small packages.”
