The ongoing Far Cry series is still dormant until Ubisoft addresses the next major release for the franchise. After the release of Far Cry 6 and its subsequent DLC, plans to proceed on a new entry has yet to be officially disclosed. In one report, it was indicated that two projects are underway: Project Maverick – PvP-focused experience; Project Blackbird – an Alaskan survival with real-time time parameters.
It was also revealed, as per InsiderGaming, that Ubisoft intends to disclose new info on Far Cry this year. The report elaborates that the new game will likely be titled ‘Far Cry 7’ and feature the first title in the series to debut with Snowdrop Engine rather than the Dunia Engine. As well as facing new leadership influence from its recent Tencent stake investment will likely influence the future release as well.
Recently speaking at Saudi Arabia’s New Global Sport Conference, via GameFile, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot addressed that plans for Far Cry includes adopting more multiplayer aspects as it becomes a core pillar for the IP’s identity. Yves explains that Ubisoft with “Far Cry [is] really to bring the multiplayer aspects more predominantly pushed, so that it can also be played for a long time by players.”
For those reminiscent of Far Cry 5, the game also featured its own multiplayer mode as well – Far Cry Arcade. The mode acted as a game creator for players to explore their creativity with tools that built Far Cry 5. Many party games were created with Arcade and Ubisoft continued to deliver more assets as each DLC released for Far Cry 5 then too. However, it looks the online functionality for the next Far Cry likely won’t be aligned with Far Cry Arcade.
Yves’ presence at the Saudi Arabia event does align with a previous announcement from Ubisoft. In August, it was revealed that a new free story expansion for Assassin’s Creed Mirage is being pieced together and set in Saudi Arabia too. You can read the full report by heading here.
Are you surprised that Ubisoft wants to inject more multiplayer into Far Cry?
