Although Valve has attempted to push hardware in the past – i.e. the Steam Machine – it has found a better run with its latest hardware. The Steam Deck has proven to be a well throughout machine for its offerings. While users online would argue that it could be up to par to the more recent Nintendo Switch 2, Digital Foundry has decided it to be lesser.
Regardless, there is more on the way from Valve for its in-house tech moving forward. According to one leak online, Valve has been working on its own internal system to bridge Steam into the living room. Additionally, there was also a new trademark that has unveiled plans for the platform too. In that, ‘Steam Frame’ was uncovered which insiders have indicated to be its next-generation VR headset.
This week, Valve has come out to properly announce the Steam Frame. Pricing is left blank currently, but the peripheral is set to launch next year in 2026. You can watch the Steam Frame segment in the video below:
“Steam Frame is a streaming-first, wireless VR headset + controllers that can handle your whole Steam library. Step into the immersive VR, or lean back and enjoy your non-VR catalog. And it supports stand-alone play too,” Valve explains on the official page. “The Steam Frame headset is lightweight and compact, with the weight balanced front-to-rear for a comfortable experience. It’s also easy to just slip on and play, with no wires and no setup.”
The page continues: “Steam Frame is a PC, and runs SteamOS powered by a Snapdragon 8 Series Processor. With 16GB of RAM, Steam Frame supports stand-alone play on a growing number of both VR and non-VR games without needing to stream from your PC. […] Quick suspend/resume. Cloud saves. All the features of SteamOS that make for a great user experience are now available in VR. Just like any SteamOS device, install your own apps, open a browser, do what you want: It’s your PC.”
