Although Steam is renowned as a platform for PC gaming through & through, Valve is looking to expand into the living room. Back in November, the firm announced a new hardware line aiming to release in early 2026: Steam Machine, Steam Frame, Steam Controller. All three devices would be part of a new ecosystem tied to your Steam library including PC. The firm even promised similar support that Steam Deck faced in its post-release.

Exploring what would be entailed for the new hardware, Valve has previously spoken on pricing. While not confirming the price tag just yet, it is said that the PC market will reflect what Valve will decide for the trio of Steam devices. Even more, it was anticipated that an announcement was imminent this winter separated from The Game Awards in anticipation for the Steam lineup release coming very soon.

But now, Valve answers for why the wait has been very quiet. While all three Steam hardware will ship in 2026, the wait has been pushed from early 2026 to the first half of the year now. In a blog post, the firm elaborates that shortage on silicon has left the team to instead push the release alongside pricing as well for its hardware.

“When we announced these products in November, we planned on being able to share specific pricing and launch dates by now. But the memory and storage shortages you’ve likely heard about across the industry have rapidly increased since then.  The limited availability and growing prices of these critical components mean we must revisit our exact shipping schedule and pricing (especially around Steam Machine and Steam Frame).

“Our goal of shipping all three products in the first half of the year has not changed. But we have work to do to land on concrete pricing and launch dates that we can confidently announce, being mindful of how quickly the circumstances around both of those things can change. We will keep you updated as much as we can as we finalize those plans as soon as possible.”
