
When it was announced, Capcom did not wait long to also confirm that Resident Evil Requiem would be launching in late February. The game showcased a new protagonist which shares a split storyline with fan-favorite hero, Leon Kennedy. The other major discovery for the ninth installment is that it would launch day-and-date for Nintendo Switch 2 alongside the last to chronological releases.
Nintendo has showed to be a promising partner to Capcom with major collaborations for Resident Evil Requiem on the Nintendo Switch 2. First was the Pro Controller. Additionally, there was also the new Amiibos coming out later this July as well. Reports previously cited that the Nintendo Switch 2 could potentially be cheaper compared to Xbox & PlayStation too.
Now fast-forward to launch weekend, it was revealed that Resident Evil Requiem is performing very well across all platforms. In fact, the game is sold out in the United States at major retailers Wal-Mart, Target, and GameStop, @shinobi602 on X discloses.
As for the game on the digital landscape, Steam numbers are the highest for the new release. As of writing, Resident Evil Requiem sits at 343,964 on Steam. This outpaces other mainline release like Resident Evil Village with 106,631 & Resident Evil Biohazard at 18,211. The remakes are also left behind with Resident Evil 4 Â accounted for 111,172, Resident Evil 3 at 32,635, and Resident Evil 2 for its all-time peak being 74,024.
Capcom is certainly aware of the performance for the Resident Evil series and sees no place to halt the IP. This year, it was reported in January that Resident Evil: Code Veronica is the next remake on the way for the publisher. You can read the full report by heading here.
