American-based Funko Inc. in partnership with Warner Bros. Animation shares upcoming plans for the production of a film starring the collection of licensed vinyl figurines. In an exclusive report from entertainment outlet Deadline, Warner Animation Group discloses that this next collaboration with Washington-homed Funko will expand on the two’s current relationship to a higher status.

For nearly two decades, both Warner Bros. and Funko have teamed up to create several lines of distinct figures/toys with the vault of licenses Warner has at its disposal. Executive Vice President of Warner Animation Group Allison Abbate shares her excitement for this project in anticipation for the two forces in creating a memorable experience for fans of all ages.

Funko CEO Brian Mariotti on the topic:

We’re thrilled for this opportunity and are committed to make an amazing Funko movie that stands on its own merit. This isn’t about selling toys or building a brand. The team at Warner Animation Group have a unique vision of what the first film should be and we are extremely excited to take this journey alongside them.

Despite the lack of context surrounding what this film will follow exactly, Warner has already confirmed to have decided on both the screenwriter and director for the upcoming motion picture. Announcing that Teddy Newton (The Incredibles) will write the movie’s storyline and Mark Dindal (Chicken Little) is taking the role as Director for the Funko film.

Warner Bros. already has its hands full seeing that the production company is already in the works for both a Mortal Kombat and Space Invaders movies, so now with Funko in the mix will surely be an exciting time for when these films are ready to hit the box office. Previously, we have only seen Funko figures in motion with the release of Gears Pop!, so a full-length project will be interesting with Warner’s backing of licenses to incorporate.

What do you think about a Funk-based film?
