More than a week ago now, developer Obsidian Entertainment announced that Virtuos Games’ port of The Outer Worlds was scheduled to arrive to the Nintendo Switch in the matter of a few short weeks. Initially slating the title to arrive on March 6th next month, this came as a very big surprise seeing that the game received roughly eight months of development to bring the title to Nintendo eShop.

While thinking about it at a wider spectrum, nearly a year does seem like a good amount of time for the Singapore-based developer to translate the title to the Nintendo Switch. However, projects have had that respected timeframe or even more for the same occurrence and still fall short due to limiting capabilities on Nintendo’s latest console. The Outer Worlds surely is a big budget title, so there is plenty that needs to be maintained to properly withhold potentially saturating the experience.

Howbeit, that is not the issue of discussion, what is comes from Chine regarding the Coronavirus epidemic that has been breaking news headlines for the last few weeks. Publisher Private Division disclosed that due to the team being based in the region of effect, the protocols issued to contain the disease has resulted in more time required to properly release the game.

In the midst of this unfortunate news that anticipated fans were hoping to experience next month, the publisher then went on to tell that the initially ‘Boxed’ version of the game would now ship with a cartridge with the additional time. The title originally was shared to only sell with a tangible case holding a download code: assuming that the game would not hit Nintendo Switch cartridge production until the 64 GB cartridges settled for studios to purchase.

For an extra tad of positivity due to the delay, the first instance of gameplay rendered through Nintendo Switch hardware has surfaced via a trailer on Nintndo.UK.

Gladly, it is reassuring that the publisher is abiding to the precautions to ensure the safety of Virtuos Games regarding the current pathogen that is plaguing entire cities in the east. We typically expect the opposite from western publishers, so his is a new experience welcomed and to sway other companies.

Can you wait another month for The Outer Worlds Switch port?

The Outer Worlds for Nintendo Switch currently has no listed release date; out now for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC.
