For Borderlands fans that might need a refresher, developer Gearbox Software unveiled back in February that the team has partnered with Lionsgate and prolific Director Eli Roth to translate the series into a full-length film. At the time of reporting, the announcement only shared that Avi Arad Erik Fieg would be posed as producers for the Production while Craig Mazin will pen the script for the plot of the film.

With more context to the project, Roth during this recent Gearbox Main Theater Showcase at PAX East told the audience that he would like to stick close to the brutality of the game’s portrayal of Pandora. He explains that he wishes to kill psychos in the movie which is a staple in the game series on its own.

Now in a recent report from Entertainment Weekly, Roth shared the first decided casting for the film. He confirms with the outlet that Cate Blanchett will be helming to role as Lilith, Roth reveals.

“I’m so lucky to have the amazing Cate Blanchett starring in Borderlands,” Roth happily tells Entertainment Weekly. “Everyone brings their A-game to work with Cate, and I know together we’re going to create another iconic character in her already storied career.”

Beyond knowledge of Blanchett’s involvement with the production being casted for a leading role in the plot of the film, it has yet to be determined which other actors will portray recognized personas from the video game series. Or more importantly, if Jim Foronda will reprise his role as Claptrap or if the robotic character will be posed by a different voice.

Alike the bombardment of news that was shared in Boston earlier this year, Geaxbox Software just recently unleashed the next shipment of content that will be coming to Borderlands 3. The developer unveiled that the third story expansion will be dubbedBounty of Blood: A Fistful of Redemption’ and teased the next add-on DLC for the game as well.
