While beloved titles can still be preserved for current owners of physical media and even digital copies on certain platforms, it is inevitable that our most valued games will be pulled from storefronts at some point. Already, we saw this from Microsoft for the Xbox 360 just this past February as dozens of games will be delisted. However, backwards compatible titles via Xbox One & Xbox Series X|S can still be purchased on newer hardware.
Additionally, Electronic Arts has constantly pulled its titles in the past year. Back in 2021, the publisher shared a handful Need for Speed titles will be delisted from stores online. Not to mention the more recent action towards Titanfall as well. The game however can still be enjoyed as Respawn Entertainment confirmed the servers will remain.
Now in a new executive move from DICE, a group of legacy games are to be pulled later in April. In that, there are four games in total: Battlefield 1943, Battlefield Bad Company, Battlefield Bad Company 2, and Mirror’s Edge. Already according to the Service Updates on Mirror’s Edge, its online servers were shuttered back in January.
“Starting April 28 2023, Battlefield 1943 and Battlefield: Bad Company 1 & 2 will be removed from digital storefronts and you will no longer be able to purchase them. This is in preparation for the retirement of the online services for these titles which will happen on December 8 2023. For Bad Company 1 & 2, you can still continue playing them and use their respective offline features, such as the single player campaign.”
“While these titles hold a special place in our heart, we’re now looking forward to creating new memories alongside you as we shift our focus towards our current and future Battlefield experiences. With this announcement we also want to take a moment today to reflect on our time with Battlefield 1943 and, Bad Company 1 & 2. We share amazing memories of not only their development, but also playing them alongside you.”
