Recently Bethesda has been reported to focus on its five IP tentpoles after new layoffs at XBOX: Fallout, The Elder Scrolls, Quake, Wolfenstein, and Doom. The decision also extends to other talented developers like Obsidian Entertainment. It was understood that the team would be tasked with a new Fallout project after more than a decade since shipping Fallout: New Vegas.
What was not part of the conversation was Starfield. The newest IP from Bethesda Game Studios that differs from Fallout & The Elder Scrolls takes to the stars. The game back in April officially shipped for PlayStation 5 and was reported to be setting an impressive trend in sales that month on the platform. It was also revealed a Nintendo Switch 2 port for Starfield is also in the works.
So while flagship franchises are said to be the focus for Bethesda, it revealed that the newest Starfield will still be receiving support into Year 3. On X, Bethesda shared plans for Starfield are to progress as the game has now exceeded over 17 million players across all platforms.
“Starfield remains an important part of our future. As we enter Year 3, we’ll continue expanding the Settled Systems with new stories, targeted gameplay improvements, and additional updates, while preparing for the launch of new Starborn content next year,” the X post reveals. “More than 40% of players already customize their experience through Creations, and we’ll continue investing in creators and giving players new ways to make Starfield their own.”
In the same statement from Bethesda, the firm confirmed that Obsidian Entertainment is to commence development on a new Fallout title. Alongside that, both Fallout 3 & Fallout: New Vegas are to also receive modern remasters too. You can read the full report by heading here.
