It has been roughly a couple weeks since Sony announced its countdown to severing physical production for PlayStation games. Since then, there have been extremely apparent outbursts by its users online. Despite organizing & petitioning to show some impact in the decision made by the PlayStation firm, it appears that Sony is unfazed in budging on its action as transitioning its largest physical operation to new equipment for new manufacturing by 2027.

Additionally, evidence has shown that little impact has been made on efforts by affected fans. Despite having the impression, the PlayStation firm looks to understand the gains on the decision outweighs the loss. To make matters worse in that regard, several executives throughout Sony have sold thousands of shares in the company anticipating the drop in value following the decision being made.

Now in the latest story surrounding the negative effect of PlayStation’s all-digital future, it is revealed that developer relationships will sour thanks to Sony’s decision. Via Moore’s Law is Dead on YouTube, it is revealed that the continuous backlash by its users on social media will affect marketing for games paid by game studios. You can watch the segment of the podcast in the video below:

“Sony often gives devs a free tweet when a game first releases, and sometimes when there is a major update, like a game leaving beta. However, these all occupy slots that are in HIGH demand, and in limited quantity each day, by many developers looking to promote their games at what they believe will be the optimal time,” a statement offered by an anonymous developer told the YouTuber.

“As such, if there’s a specific time you want your PS tweet to drop, you often have to beg profusely or pay 10s of thousands of dollars to secure it dropping at an exact day or time. If this backlash happened when MY game was releasing, I would demand a redo, or at least be very upset with Sony.” Understanding on the impact came after the recent advertising campaign for Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced was met with hard criticism not for the game, but for the platform.

Even more, this will only bleed further into other major titles. For example, Grand Theft Auto VI. It was discovered back in May that Sony acquired marketing rights for the biggest release of 2026. However, since its decision, many are convinced that Rockstar Games have retracted some presence with the firm; namely PlayStation social media reverting its logo.
