During fall 2025, PlayStation & Bungie announced that Marathon would be receiving a delay. Things were appearing grim for the game with first-impressions being against hopes of those involved. Despite the criticisms, it was confirmed by Sony that plans were not to shelve the game and see out the release for Marathon. The firm went on to say intent to launch Marathon this fiscal year, but in 2026.
So, Bungie in January confirmed that Marathon would hit listed platforms in March. But, there was still a gaping hole for this multiplayer-only experience: a public beta. Hands-on with those interested is essential for a game of this nature. At the State of Play in February, Bungie confirmed a ‘Server Slam’ playtest would be held so users can test the waters before jumping to purchase/pre-order Marathon.
And now with the beta behind us over the past weekend, Bungie has returned with all the plans it has in store for Marathon going forward. The developer on X posted an article going into detail on what is already in motion plus what is being worked on for Marathon following into the post-launch phase for the game.
“We’ve learned a lot from you, watched from the shadows as you’ve hit snags or found moments of glory, and taken notes the whole time. Your input during this time has given us a lot of items to sort through and we’ll be doing just that in the coming days, so thank you,” Bungie penned. “Currently you have the ability to run as a Solo (be it as Rook or as a Runner in a solo lobby), or you can queue in with a duo or a full trio – but we have heard the feedback about duo dedicated lobbies. This has been logged and shared with the team,” the team says it plans to address.
The firm also lists aspects that are being touched upon as well: PvP feedback; Med and ammo economy; UI feedback; PC performance; Movement and heat generation. “TTK is the hot topic. Some of you want longer duels and more Runner contact, others are vibing with the current pace. We’re reviewing Runner density on non-beginner maps and keeping a close eye on how Perimeter and Dire Marsh feel all in all.”
As for elements that are already addressed, Bungie lists in‑run voice chat has been resolved, tweaked lobby size, rectified mouse input lag on PC, and remedied player names being changes to “Redacted”. Bungie closes the article by encouraging players to continue being vocal on what can be changed to better Marathon. Previously, Bungie confirmed strict cheater banning for Marathon prior to the beta.
