Although we witness games launch years before, sometimes the online lobbies or general player count will still continue to grow for the sake of popularity and replayability. One instance of this follows the release of Netflix’s The Witcher back in December as the show racked in a record-breaking 94,000 concurrent players for The Witcher 3 on Steam, exceeding the initial record placed after the game’s launch in 2015.

Now in 2020, another milestone has been shattered, this time regarding Valve’s Counter Strike: Global Offensive. This Saturday, it was revealed that CSGO overtook its initial active player count into the millions for the first time. The game’s official Twitter account celebrated as the latest tweet reads “Thanks a million.”

When combing over the Steam Charts for CSGO, the exact numbers for the game reads to be an ‘all-time peak’ of 1,023,229 concurrent players. Delving deeper into the tables for the game’s player count history, CSGO was dipping in player count for September and October, but gradually spiked from November until March with a consistent 30K – 40K addition of users, more specifically in December to February.

However, March has only accumulated roughly 26K as of now, which could entail a drop in players possibly But seeing the increase of active players could still be on the way as the second half of March has yet to arrive. Especially with growing concern surrounding the COVIS-19 virus, this might be the driving force for more players to log into CSGO later on.

Especially with major gaming events initially slated for 2020 being cancelled like the originally-approaching Overwatch Homestead events alongside this June’s E3, player count could continue to surge for the weeks to come. However, the ailment is volatile and could potentially change direction which would directly affect more players being active on the game – just to keep that in mind.

Did you play CSGO this past weekend?
