The arrival of the Nintendo Switch 2 came with some pushback as there are users online vocal about the offerings of the system compared to the original Nintendo Switch. But, the system has shown promise in its sales thus far. In Japan, the console already has a more popular release to the PlayStation 2. And by the end of September 2025, over 10 million units were sold for the Nintendo Switch 2 already.
Despite reports of the general consumer market calming its purchasing for consoles this past holiday, the Nintendo Switch 2 remains to sell efficiently to its predecessor. One of the largest concerns for the device was its availability, however, Nintendo prior to release did address it will campaign to combat scalpers. The problem consoles faced during the pandemic would not be an issue for Nintendo’s newest system.
But, a new problem has arose instead as of late. For both Xbox & PlayStation, next-generation machines appear to be delayed as RAM for AI is a new hurdle for manufacturers. And, it appears this by extension will also affect Nintendo Switch 2 as well. Speaking to Kyoto Shimbun, Video Game Chronicle transcribes, Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa said he will be observing the matter very closely before considering a new price tag.
“Hardware profitability depends on factors like component procurement conditions, cost reductions through mass production, and the impact of exchange rates and tariffs. It’s difficult to generalize. Fundamentally, we aim to address this by advancing component procurement over the medium to long term.
Furukawa continued: “We procure from suppliers based on our medium- to long-term business plans, but the current memory market is very volatile. There is no immediate impact on earnings, but it is something we must monitor closely.” He also addressed that the considering a price increase is purely hypothetical, but could not offer a direct comment.
Elsewhere on X, Niko Partners director of research & insight Daniel Ahmad pressed that chances are likely for new pricing model for the Switch 2. “With the memory price surge (and whatever trump is doing with tariffs today), I’m fairly convinced we’ll see a Switch 2 price hike this year.” He previously believed Nintendo could manage amid the ongoing US tariffs, but was adamant things could change in 2026.
Are you convinced Nintendo Switch 2 could face a price hike soon?
