When it comes to major AAA publishers, the big earning firms are starting to find the ground below them start to disappear. Although new major releases are still scheduled to ship, these conglomerate firms are facing issues in operations in recent time. The most evident example is Ubisoft: the publisher earlier this spring accepted a €1.16 billion investment from Tencent as it faced troubling results the past few years.
Similarly, the same can be seen with Electronic Arts. The firm although delivering live-services like Apex Legends and shipping annual sports releases like Madden & EA Sports FC, the publisher still faces problems when launching other IPs. For instance – Battlefield is currently in poor shape following the release of Battlefield 2042. In response, the firm formed Battlefield Studios comprised of multiple EA studios. It also shelved Need For Speed, Codemasters as events continue to unfold for Electronic Arts.
On Monday, Electronic Arts in a new press release announced the publisher will be going private. As part of a $55 billion deal, Electronic Arts will be acquired by PIF, Silver Lake, and Affinity Partners. Andrew Wilson will currently remain as CEO until the deal is passed through sometime in Q1 FY27
