Just this past year, we’ve witnessed an influx of more attention painted towards the Forza Horizon series. Playground Games this past spring released Forza Horizon 5 on PlayStation 5. The game instantly became a hit on the PlayStation Store leading at the time of release. Additionally, it was recently reported that the game has generated over $300 million on that platform exclusively since its arrival.

And with formalities out of the way for more systems to release on, there is a new installment on the way – Forza Horizon 6. The game was properly revealed at Tokyo Game Show earlier this fall revealing the series is heading to Japan. In a follow-up report, it was indicated that the wait for the new title will not be long pointing to a May release later this spring.

And with the Xbox Developer_Direct this week, fans will be able to see more of what Playground Games has in store. During the showcase, it was announced the game is to ship May 19th for Xbox & PC. And, a PlayStation 5 version is set for late 2026. You can watch the gameplay overview in the video below:

“Filtered through the lens of being a Horizon game, which is a big open world with its consequence-free traversal, we had to find that balance between what it feels like to be there, but also the fun of a Horizon game where you can jump in a hypercar, absolutely spin it off a cliff and earn points for doing that,” said design director Torben Ellert on the translation of Japan for the game’s new setting.

He adds about the opportunity to explore Tokyo: “The combination of enormous verticality, glass, neon signs, adverts for all manners of things, with Tokyo we’ve created this ultra-high-density space unlike anything we’ve made before. It’s the most visually, radically different space we’ve ever built for a Horizon game.” Forza Horizon 6 will also feature prominent Japanese car culture attributes like car meets as well.

“With the aim of authentically creating a racing experience that reflects informal gatherings as well as professionally organized events, Forza Horizon 6 introduces Car Meets, a feature also grounded in Japanese car culture. These meets are inspired by the Daikoku car meet – a world-renowned, mostly spontaneous meeting place and sacred ground for car enthusiasts.”
