For the longest time, there has been chatter of a Halo remake of sorts. Following 343 Industries announcing its rebrand to ‘Halo Studios’ and the adoption of Unreal Engine 5 as its main tool for development, reports swirled on a refocus of its legacy releases. What’s more, this would be the first of many as the developer recently confirmed that there are “multiple” titles it will focus on with Halo Infinite officially receiving its final update very soon.
As for Halo: Campaign Evolved, the new title is set to release next year in 2026. For the first time, it will be the introduction of the franchise to PlayStation just over two decades since its inception. Additionally, there will be cross-play co-op as well included in the full release. Atop of that, there is no multiplayer matchmaking included in this version of Halo.
Although Gears of War: Reloaded delivered its own online experience alike the original 2006 title, the same cannot be said for the inaugural Halo release. But when speaking to Windows Central, Halo Studios elaborated that it is still honoring what Bungie offered for the game in its new version of Halo.
“We’re not trying to replace what is a masterpiece in the original. We’re trying to basically make something that stands kind of shoulder to shoulder with it, using new tools, new energy, to get a little bit of a fresh take on some things, but honoring the legacy,” Damon Conn, executive producer said.
“So, yes, it’s a campaign experience, but it’s not only a single-player experience. And Halo has been always about reconnecting, a strong sense of community, and then also telling those stories and sharing those experiences together. And we believe that is where, you know, we’re really going to be able to bring people together with this new release”
