For over a decade, Netflix has reforged how entertainment is processed and consumed with its streaming service taking charge of the entertainment industry with other firms tackling the business model in its own regards. But what is more surprising is its plans to enter video games. This venture would be no burden to users as titles will be free for subscribers, the firm shared.

This started with the acquisition of Night School Games just last fall. But moving into 2022, the firm continued to shop for more talent with Next Games & Boss Fight Entertainment also being bought up. It was by November 2021 that the Netflix Games feature was implemented for Android devices.

Now in a new reveal this week, Netflix shares its next acquisition. In the press release, it is shared that Spry Fox, the team responsible for Bushido Bear & Cozy Grove, will be joining Netflix officially.

When David and I founded Spry Fox twelve years ago, our goal was to create a place where kind, creative people could make beautiful, original games in a supportive environment that brought happiness to the people who played them. After many heartfelt conversations, we are all excited about joining Netflix as an in-house game studio and building amazing games together.

Daniel Cook, Spry Fox Co-Founder

“We look forward to creating games with a studio whose values — a relentless focus on employee and player joy — align closely with ours. Our games journey has only just begun, but I’m proud of the foundational work we’ve been doing to build out our in-house creative capacity so that we can deliver the best possible games experience — including no ads and no in-app purchases — to our members as part of their membership,” Netflix Vice President of Games Amir Rahimi writes.

“What does this mean for our existing games? They’ll remain downloadable and available in their current forms on their current platforms,” the studio reassures in a separate post. “What about development efforts on new games? Everyone at Spry Fox was already focused on making Cozy Grove 2 as well as a larger, non-violent MMO that we still haven’t revealed much about publicly, and that is still the case. So there’s no change in our current development efforts.”
