The PlayStation 5 DualSense is probably one of the most sensational additions to this generation of consoles. Enough so that even Microsoft is taking notes. Previously, it was reported from an internal leak that a new ‘Sebile’ controller is on the way which borrows a lot from its competitor. In the meantime, Hyperkin is set to release its ‘Competitor’ gamepad later this month too.
As for the DualSense on the PlayStation side of things, Sony Interactive Entertainment has continued to roll out now versions of the controller for its platform. The most recent announcement was the ‘DualSense Wireless Controller – God of War 20th Anniversary Limited Edition’ which shipped this past weekend. Additionally, the ‘Joyful Astro Bot DualSense Controller’ is also arriving later in October as well.
Fundamentally for the PlayStation 5 DualSense controller, Sony Interactive Entertainment apparently has a major revision in mind. Reported by Graczdari, thanks Video Game Chronicle, the ‘DualSense V3’ is already in motion to release in November 2025 and be the first iteration to include an option to remove the battery. It is not clarified if it will be the rechargeable battery or if it introduces AA batteries as an option.
This is not the first instance of Sony Interactive Entertainment silently rolling out changes for the latest platform. Earlier in September, the PlayStation firm shipped a new revision to the PlayStation 5 – PS5 Slim Digital Chassis E, Dealabs reported. The change that was administered to the new PlayStation 5 would be a smaller internal memory of only 825 GB.
What is more interesting is Sony’s decision to pursue this option for the DualSense. Alongside Nintendo Switch’s Pro Controller, both are viable as it only requires plugging in to power the controller rather than the option for third-party batteries. In the past, Microsoft touted that the decision was for users to make if they wanted AA batteries or a rechargeable alternative. You can read the full report by heading here.
