Remedy Entertainment Ships Last Major Update For FBC: Firebreak, But Also Patched In New Reduced Price & Friend Pass Feature

Back in summer 2025, it was a real surprise realizing Remedy Entertainment shipped its own live-service multiplayer game. Our review for the title resulted with a score of 6.5/10 at the time. “Remedy’s trademark creativity flickers in the margins of FBC: Firebreak but never truly takes center stage. […] There are flashes of fun, but the team needs to put in a lot more work if they want Firebreak to leave a lasting impression down the road.”

Following the release of FBC: Firebreak, the Alan Wake & Control developer rolled out a major overhaul to the game’s multiplayer structuring in the ‘Breakpoint Update’ that went live later in the fall. Additionally, reports indicated the PC version of the live-service fell short. And with growing concerns for how the studio faired after the game’s middling success, the firm appointed a new CEO in October 2025. 

Now with Control Resonant on the way, Remedy Entertainment is going to put FBC: Firebreak on its last go at the pasture. It is not shuttering down the game, but instead issuing a new update for the live-service including a new permanent price tag of $19.99 and an online Friend Pass as part of the ‘Open House’ Update.

“Anyone who has bought FBC: Firebreak can invite their friends to play with them, for free. All they have to do is download the Friends Pass version, which is the full game with some limitations (shown as ‘Free Trial’ version on console storefronts), and they can matchmake with the bought version of the game, as long as the person who bought the game invites their friends to play. This works across platforms,” the team wrote in the Steam post.

“We want to make sure those moments can continue for the players who are already here, and for anyone else looking for a high-energy, low-pressure game night with friends,” game director Mike Kayatta said in a statement. “That’s why the relay servers are staying up, the price is going down, and a Friend’s Pass is going in. From all of us on the team, thank you for your own passion and experimentation, and we’ll see you in there.”
