Report: Dave Bautista Shut Down Fast & Furious Role To Pitch Gears Of War Project

Although much of the spotlight for Xbox-oriented productions are aimed over at the upcoming Halo Showtime project planned to air on Paramount+ next year, there is still another project currently brewing. In that, Universal Pictures is handling the upcoming film adaptation for Gears of War. Alongside collaborating with The Coalition, the project is expected to be a true tale to the game’s universe.

However, no further details were made following the original 2018 announcement. But, one actor is adamant to be casted for the motion picture: Dave Bautista. Previously, he shared to be interested to play the role of Marcus Fenix. Howbeit, Universal Pictures did not bite on his eagerness to portray the series’ protagonist. Later, Bautista shared to lost hope on pursuing the role in one tweet.

Speaking with Collider recently, Bautista shares his time negotiating to portray Bane for a new DC project. But, he also elaborates on his trip to Universal Pictures to talk his way to being casted for the production.

I don’t make any pretense about it,” Bautista said. “I had a chance to get a meeting at WB, they were talking to me about this and that and I said ‘hey, let’s talk about Bane.’ That happened to me one other time in my career. They wanted to talk to me about Fast and the Furious, and I said “I’m not interested, let’s talk about [Gears of War character] Marcus Fenix.”

In a later statement from Bautista, and transcribed by IGN, he added how “put off” that Universal became when he showed more interest over the Fast & Furious in favor for Gears of War. “I don’t mean to offend anybody. I’m not putting down anything else, I’m just saying [Gears] is way more interesting to me. I don’t want to pretend like I’m actually interested in something I’m not when there’s something I’m actually really excited about that you guys have under control.”

Bautista continues, “’ Would you consider me for that?’ I don’t think there’s any harm in that. I’m not trying to step on anybody else’s toes, I’m just saying like this is what I love and I’m seriously passionate about this. ‘I can do a good job for you guys on this.’” So far, the most Bautista received entering the Gears of War universe is a reskin for Marcus Fenix in Gears 5 multiplayer.

But more recently, Bautista received more dedication to the pursuit. In favor of the Xbox Series X|S release of Gears 5, The Coalition added an option to reskin Marcus Fenix once again.
