Just this past December, fans were finally able to come full circle with the Sonic films. After two installments and a TV show, Sonic the Hedgehog was finally a trilogy with Keanu Reeves voicing Shadow the Hedgehog. Also coinciding with Sonic x Shadow Generations, there was a crossover between both releases. And shortly after hitting theaters, Sonic the Hedgehog 4 was also confirmed to come later in 2027.
For Sonic the Hedgehog 3, it brings new attention to the series as there is more to expand on the universe despite the progress the journey thus far has offered. In that, the film did feature two post-credit scenes. Although still unconfirmed, there is one project that could be related. Previously, reports did indicate a Shadow the Hedgehog spin-off film is in the works.Â
Now recently, new information has broke out on Paramount Studios’ Sonic the Hedgehog. According to The Wrap, there are multiple Sonic the Hedgehog standalone films being considered internally at Paramount. Although there is no firm grasp on what these projects will be, the same cannot be said on whether they will fill the gaps between the third & fourth film.
[SPOILERS] For those that have seen Sonic the Hedgehog 3, the post-credit scenes following the movie injects two new additions – Metal Sonic & Amy. The final cutscene also hints to the return of Shadow the Hedgehog as well after his sacrifice in the new film. But considering that both Metal Sonic as well as Amy are the newest additions, they are to likely resurface exclusively for the next mainline release.
As for Shadow, the greatest lifeform did have his feature film and a spin-off could explore his complexities further without holding back the momentum of the core Sonic films. There are other possibilities that many speculate like Team Chaotix or Silver the Hedgehog; neither has been properly addressed to be coming. There were whispers of a Tails film years before, but it has yet to manifest beyond a rumor. You can read the report by heading here.
