The formidable impact left by Sea of Thieves remains to outpace itself as time progresses. With roughly 40 million players, the game was a large scale success for Xbox Game Studios. Then came the addition of the PlayStation 5 version also went ahead to show the influence of Rare’s newest latest IP. It later lead PlayStation Store sales for both April & May in 2024.
Additionally, the developer has continued to support the game with free updates to the full experience. In Season 14, the addition of stealth mechanics welcomed blow darts & traps to the core game. And later in Season 15, players were met with new megalodons as well as fishing voyages that fleshed out the beloved feature.
Now this week, Season 16 is finally here and comes with new mechanics. In that, cannons are finally portable as well as players now able to form their own party of companion skeletons too. You can watch the launch trailer in the video below:
“There are few things the Order of Bone and Blade love more than a good fight, so once you’ve dug them up, they’ll happily jump into combat on your behalf. Even better, if they get knocked down, you’ll be able to revive them again like any other crewmate! […] These mercenaries aren’t just handy in battle. They can also help with whatever you need to get done on the island, whether that’s figuring out a tricky treasure map or unearthing buried loot and hauling it back to your ship,” Rare shares.
“Unlike its heavier, ship-bound counterparts, the Cannon of Rage is light enough to be ferried around by hand and deployed wherever it’s needed. Once you’ve finished blasting holes in your target, you can pack it back up and carry it to your next intended scene of destruction. […] Though a powerful weapon, the Cannon of Rage carries risk too: every time you fire the cannon or it takes damage, its temperature rises. If it gets too hot without being cooled down using water, it’ll live up to its name and violently explode, blowing holes in any ship it’s perched on.”
