Dating back nearly four years ago now, Deep Silver alongside the publisher with Shenmue creator Yu Suziki to debut the development of Shenmue III which will be funded directly from a Kickstarter campaign. Closing to the end of 2015, the game reached its $2 million goal and development started immediately after.
Since then, developer Ys Net have been quietly working on the anticipated third installment of the series with not much detail on the title’s progress. Initially aimed for a 2017 release, the title was then pushed to a more distant release date of 2019. The following year in 2018, the studio released a trailer which revealed a confirmed launch date for this coming August: but now it was shared that fans will have to be patient for just a few more months.
In a message from both creator Suzuki and Deep Silver, it details that the initial August 27th release date has now been pushed back to November 19th, nearly three months after the initially promised release.

The message shares that the team wants to ensure that the best experience will ship with the approaching title and will be taking the extra few weeks to work out the rougher surfaces of the title and do some extra refining before they can see the title is truly completed. Especially as seeing some of the other AAA titles that have released the past year alone, it’s understandable that the studio would want to make sure all problems are resolved before shipping the game as done.
Shenmue III will be available for PlayStation 4 this Fall.
