Although roughly a decade old, Ubisoft’s commitment to The Division IP is commendable. For sequel The Division 2, it has been at least a year since it released expansion ‘Battle for Brooklyn’. Additionally, it was revealed in August that a new extraction focused experience ‘The Division 2: Extraction’ is also on the way. While the series has somewhat pioneered the genre, it has continued to surge in popularity more recently.

The original game also received some attention as well. Over on PlayStation 5, the inaugural The Division title was met with a 60 FPS update as part of Ubisoft’s long campaign of enhancements for legacy releases. There is also news for the future too. It was confirmed dating back to 2023 that The Division 3 is in development officially. Details on the game’s current whereabout is still not clarified.

This week, Ubisoft rolled out a new season for The Division 2 and with it came a major makeover to Dark Zones for the core experience. In the current world of chasing the extraction shooter trend, The Division 2 is retooling the original mode to modern tastes. You can watch the launch trailer in the video below:

“Into the Dark includes the first step in a broader update to the PvP experience, with changes applying across Conflict and all Dark Zone variants. For this first phase, the focus is on Weapon and Gear Talents,” Ubisoft clarifies. “The goal is to reduce the gap between overperforming and underused options, create more room for different builds, and improve the overall PvP balance. This is part of a longer process. Future PvP updates are planned to look at Skills, Attributes, Status Effects, and other areas that affect the competitive experience.”

There will also be a rotation of Dark Zone variants that will be implemented between Classic, Toxic, and Balanced. Classic is phrased as a traditional PvPvE experience whilst Toxic emphasizes on PvE unique to this season. Balanced is coined a competitive PvPvE mode. Modifiers are also highlighted with its own four categories too: Active; Global; Hostile; Passive.
