When entertaining news on the Gears of War IP, developer The Coalition has remained radio silent on the next major installment. After the release of 2019’s Gears 5, fans were introduced to mobile game Gears Pop! and top-down strategy Gears Tactics. Our review for the latter reads as such: “Gears Tactics succeeds in adapting the existing formula for a new genre, and it hopefully provides an excellent foundation that they can hopefully build off for the future.”
Beyond that, The Coalition has done little to share the future of its main franchise. It was in 2021 that the developer shared its plans to transition to Unreal Engine 5. And with that indicated announcements will be on hold until the team properly migrates to the new suite. Amid the wait – which is still active – fans witnessed the series make an appearance as skins via Epic Games Fortnite more than a year ago.
This week, The Game Awards is taking place on Thursday and already a new Gears of War collaboration is on the horizon for the event. From Twitter user @SparckMc, a Fall Guys x Gears of War crossover is among us likely for this week’s show.
What further solidifies the announcement tonight is what host Geoff Keighley indicated in a letter head. For the official Twitch viewer rewards, one reads: “A Fall guys costume based on an unannounced collab with a major gaming franchise.” With the new evidence that has surfaced over the past day, it is likely to be the image we are familiar with.
As for other recent Gears of War news, Netflix is now in command of the upcoming Gears of War motion picture. Originally under Universal, the streaming conglomerate shared its effort for the new video game adaptation to be underway for its platform. You can read the full report by heading here.
