As of recent, Call of Duty remains an interesting phenomenon. It was reported earlier this fall that a film adaptation is in the works at Paramount with Peter Berg (Patriots Day) in the director’s chair. Elsewhere, the latest installment – Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 – has been crowned Xbox Game Pass’ most-played title in the short window it released in just last month.

But, there has been other things in the pipeline for years that has yet to materialize. Previously, Microsoft revealed in a deal with Nintendo that the IP is to ship for Nintendo Switch. Then, the conversation was spun for the original hardware, but now applies to the newer Nintendo Switch 2 as well. In November, it was reported that Sledgehammer Games is already hiring with the headspace already set on Nintendo’s consoles.

So while there is still no concrete grasp on when the series will hit the Nintendo eShop, it is reported that Call of Duty is due fairly soon. According to Microsoft insider Jez Corden at Windows Central, he said in an exchange on X that Call of Duty will arrive “in a few months.” Given the wording, we’ll likely expect the game to arrive sometime in the next fiscal year; after March 2026.

One concern remaining is what game exactly will be shipping for Nintendo Switch. While Activision & Treyarch rolled out Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 last month, it is not clear if that or a different release will be on Nintendo Switch. It is even possible to consider that Activision could be preparing to just launch the free-to-play Call of Duty: Warzone client on the platform ultimately.

What is clear in the intentions for Call of Duty for Microsoft is to handle the IP similar to Minecraft. When still battling for the acquisition back in 2022, Xbox boss Phil Spencer elaborated that the series is to remain a multiplatform effort alike the Mojang Studios franchise.
