For the most part, Nintendo continues to be on the correct path as commercial success for the Nintendo Switch continues to grow exponentially since its release back in March 2017. Especially following after the lackluster performance of the Nintendo Wii U which predated the latest console, it is almost more surprising to learn that the system has already surpassed 68 million units as of this past September.
But while the firm is already illustrating to be at the pinnacle of prosperity in the video game industry, the company is still looking to find more opportunity to further grow its success. In that, elements such as investments or more so acquisitions are in order for that. In a new release from Nintendo, the Japanese firm announces to be acquiring Next Level Games.
The Canadian game developer most recognized for its efforts in releasing 2005’s Super Mario Strikers for the GameCube and its latest release of Luigi’s Mansion 3 for the Nintendo Switch will now be welcomed to Nintendo’s first-party network of studios.
In the documentation provided, Nintendo adds that the acquisition is scheduled to be concluded on March 1, 2021. For what is determined to arrive to Nintendo following the purchase of Next Level Games is currently undetermined. Even more, Nintendo also elaborates that the firm is not expecting “effective results” this fiscal year after the announcement of the acquisition.
But in the coming fiscal year for Nintendo – the firm pressed that it will reference earnings and the impact from the newly welcomed team leading forward. “Nintendo will start reflecting the earnings forecast with respect to NLG for the next fiscal year and thereafter,” the firm pens in the release.
Looking ahead, this draws the question as to what Nintendo has planned next and the company’s ambitions for the new decade. Most noted, this is the first acquisition made by Nintendo in the past decade – the last being made in 2007 with Monolith Soft (Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition).
