In 2019, Take-Two Interactive announced that a new BioShock game was in development at Cloud Chamber, giving hope for the future of the franchise. However, on Friday, it was reported by Bloomberg that Take-Two Interactive is overhauling parts of BioShock 4.
It was reported that senior executives were dissatisfied with the development process of BioShock 4. The game, which continued development at Cloud Chamber, failed to pass a review by executives at 2K Games, the publishing subsidiary of Take-Two.
2K Games let go of studio head, Kelley Gilmore, and moved Hogarth de la Plante to a publishing role. Bloomberg shares that staff were told “the company needs to be more agile and efficient.”
While the morale might be low at Cloud Chamber right now, their goal is to set BioShock up for the best possible future. Although they have a good game currently, they want to deliver a great one.
It was just in 2024 that development for the next BioShock is “ramping up,” which gave everyone some hope we’d see news eventually. BioShock 4 has been in development now for at least 6 years. There were also rumors of 2K Games having a BioShock-related announcement this year, but that may be a thing of the past now with this report.
There is also a BioShock movie in the works, and that might be something we see news on in the near future.
Jason Schreier of Bloomberg also reports that 2K Games was developing a BioShock 1 Remake. That has now been shelved since earlier this year.
