The reach of Steam is immensely rich already just on PC alone. With the addition of the Steam Deck years prior, there has been a broader horizon for new users to be integrated. And although the handheld does not compare to the same lengths as the new Nintendo Switch 2, it is certain that Valve is working on new hardware.

Previously, Valve canned its Steam Machine attempt officially back in 2019. But, that is not to say a new console is coming. This past winter, there were new reports that Valve has been piecing together its own in-house system once again thanks to evidence in SteamOS. Already, Valve has revealed the new Steam Frame virtual reality system to precede the Steam Index.

Now, Valve has put the spotlight on the new Steam Machine. You can watch the Steam Machine segment in the video below:

“With over six times the horsepower of the Steam Deck, Steam Machine has the power to play your whole Steam library, including your favorite AAA titles. Just sign in with your Steam account and your entire library is there,” Valve describes the system. “Put it under your TV. Set it on your desk. Hide it under a banana. It’s powerful PC gaming packed into a roughly 6-inch (~160mm) cube.”

It also added: “Steam Machine keeps cool and runs whisper-quiet, even while running the most demanding games. […] 4K gaming at 60 FPS with FSR, thanks to a discrete semi-custom AMD desktop class CPU and GPU. […] Available in two storage sizes: 512GB and 2TB. Both come with expandable storage via microSD.” There is also a new LED light that helps display status for the system including downloading progress.

“Steam Machine runs Valve’s gaming-first operating system. SteamOS is designed to provide a plug-and-play user experience, while keeping the power and flexibility of a PC. Experience SteamOS in the same way as other Steam hardware, like Steam Deck and Steam Frame. […] Yes, Steam Machine is optimized for gaming, but it’s still your PC. Install your own apps, or even another operating system.”
