There has been major news for Gears of War: E-Day that has fans excited for the new installment. Previously, it was confirmed that the prequel title would be a linear experience that returns to its roots. But this past weekend, it was also confirmed that the new title would be a console exclusive. Despite Gears of War: Reloaded being available on PlayStation, the game that is set to predate it will not.

Going into detail on platform exclusive at XBOX, it was expressed that “it’s going to be case-by-case, but we’re going to be clear that when it’s got a date, it’s got a platform and you’ll know what the choice is going to be.” And amid some evidence pointing to how soon Microsoft made that decision, it stands on the call being made a month out from the showcase this past weekend.

Additionally, there are also rumors of other XBOX promotional titles that were pulled from the previous PlayStation State of Play. When speaking on the conversation about XBOX’s ‘cheap victory’ for its exclusive decision, InsiderGaming’s Tom Henderson during a recent podcast stated the budget for Gears of War: E-Day is understood to be around $400 million. You can watch the segment of the podcast in the video below:

“I do think that Gears of War not going to PS5 is a cheap win,” Henderson says. “Gears of War’s budget is insane. Like I’ve heard upwards of $400 million. […] Let’s be honest, it probably wasn’t going to make money even if it was on PlayStation.“ There is some truth to Gears of War’s performance on PlayStation. Gears of War: Reloaded only shipped just north of 600,000 units since its release nearly a year ago.

This is not the first we saw a XBOX release with a ballooned budget either. In 2024, Senau’s Saga: Hellblade II was revealed to have a development budget over $117 million. And just this week it was revealed that Project: Mara is being halted permanently. It is likely to guess that the title was also found to have a climbing budget too. Do you believe Gears of War: E-Day has a budget that big?

Gears of War: E-Day launches on October 6, 2026 for XBOX Series X|S & PC.
