It has been over a year since former WWE wrestler Dave Bautista shared his enthusiasm in pursuing the role to play Gears of War’s Marcus Fenix in the coming motion picture from Universal Pictures. Since the report, neither Microsoft nor Universal has shared any detail regarding the casting for the upcoming film adaptation.
Now, Bautista have shared his view on the film’s casting and seems to be doubtful on him to be taking the leading role of the movie. This comes from @RetroRhinoGames asking for the film to be greenlit with Bautista to play Fenix, but the actor responds by stating that the studio doesn’t seem interested in him being casted for the protagonist.

Previously, The Coalition studio head Rod Fergusson told gaming outlet IGN that the coming film will not be entirely canon to the current stretch of titles in the series: sharing that this “alternate reality” will give Universal Pictures more freedom when creating a new and unique story for the upcoming film. Possibly given that the casting has still yet to be announced and the movie to break away from the traditional basis of the game’s plot, that we might not see Marcus Fenix play the lead role and to follow another character from the franchise?
That is only some food for thought, as not much detail regarding the film has yet to be revealed with even a poster or a teaser trailer, there is only speculation until official word breaks out. What are your thoughts on the Gears of War film regarding the casting?
In other Gears of War-related news, The Coalition just finished up the first of two Gears 5 Versus Tech Tests this weekend and the second will be taking place this coming Friday, July 26th. For the full overview of the playtest, go on over here.
