Gears of War movie has a “strong script” and Netflix is 100% behind it

There’s no question that video game movies are the hottest things coming to the theaters aside from Superhero movies these days. A movie that has been reported to be happening for a while is Gears of War.

Last August, it was announced that the Gears of War movie script was being written. Another positive about this film is that Netflix is backing it, with David Leitch set to direct it.

In a recent interview with Collider, Leitch provided a confident answer regarding the progress of the Gears of War movie script.

“Gears of War, I think, is going to happen. We have a draft that’s in progress that’s in really great shape. The studio’s more determined than ever to make it. Netflix is 100% behind it.”

The director also goes on to say that The Coalition, the developers of the series, are fired up as well.

The Gears of War movie has been in slow development for a number of years. Even Dave Bautista expressed slight frustration in an interview in 2025. The partnership with Netflix to make a movie based on the iconic Xbox franchise was announced in 2022.
