Within the next year, big changes are expected to roll out from Microsoft regarding Xbox. Earlier at the start of March, it was officially revealed the next-generation console will be dubbed ‘Project Helix’ until properly given a marketed name. As for the current platform, there is a major update coming. The beloved Backwards Compatibility program is set to return in 2026 and will bring new things unlike seen previously according to the Xbox firm.
The momentum that the new console will bring is unmatched to any other generation. The decision to make a PC experience will be a first for Xbox and shows the platform to be open to other marketplaces. Last year, we saw aggregate store libraries be enabled for the Xbox PC app. Additionally, this will go a step further with the ‘Xbox Mode’ confirmed to come in April next month delivering a console-like experience to the platform.
Now reported by Pure Xbox, it is discovered that manual game importing is now rolling out for preview users on the Xbox PC app. This includes purchased titles from other storefronts digitally or even titles natively installed on the machine via a physical key. This comes to be a major step forward all things considered with the forthcoming update schedule for next month already.
According to the outlet, this is applicable to both games as well as applications to the Xbox PC app. Through multiple testing, this was achievable for Age of Empires: Definitive Edition as displayed in the article. The website also confirmed success for Guitar Hero fan game YARG, iTunes, Audacity, and even Sider – a modding tool for eFootball 2021 which illustrates how flexible this is for the platform.
On the console side of things, it was already confirmed that Epic Games Store plans to have a major presence for Project Helix. Speaking to GameFile, Steve Allison shared that the firm has every intent to be available on the new console. You can read the full report by heading here.
