Coming this summer, Microsoft Flight Simulator will be turning a year-old. And while the game since its initial release welcomed an abundance of updates, the biggest change coming to the game is a console version. Back in December, Microsoft unveiled the game coming to Xbox One & Xbox Series X|S this summer.

In terms of the new additions to the game, the most recent World Updates added a blanket makeover to Europe. In that, the third update that shipped earlier this year welcomed reworks to majority of the territories that make up the United Kingdom. More recently, World Update IV included additions to France, Netherlands, and Belgium.

According to the most recent patchwork, however, developer Asobo Studio brings the largest change yet. While not on the direct surface of the game, it is revealed that the 170+ GB file size for Microsoft Flight Simulator is now being reduced to 83 GB.

Release Notes 1.16.2.0

We performed some optimization for the initial full download of the title so the base game is only 83GB instead of +170GB.

Although PC players are already accustomed to tackling larger clients when installing games, this move to drastically reduce the file size for Microsoft Flight Simulator does not come at a better time. With the console version underway in the coming weeks, this move appears to be in best interest of the new audience.

Additionally, Studio Asobo already readied ways document the best way for content to hit Xbox, the patch notes reads. “Creation of an Xbox X|S dedicated page in the documentation, which gathers the latest info & best practices to port content on Xbox.”
