This week Nintendo has announced that the past Thanksgiving week (11/24 – 11/30) has been the most successful sales week for the company regarding the Nintendo Switch. Revealing more in-depth that the company has sold nearly one million units in the one week; roughly 830,000 to give a specific estimate.
This milestone that Nintendo achieved last month also solidifies that the company has sold about 17.5 million units since the console’s launch back in early 2017. Followed by this week’s Cyber Monday, it was also the most impressive event for the handheld hybrid console as well.
Holiday shoppers see the value of Nintendo Switch, which offers a vast library of games for every type of player,” said Nick Chavez, Nintendo of America’s Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing. “Whether shopping for the ideal gift or picking one up for yourself, the Nintendo Switch family of systems provides options that fit every play style.

Revealing more metrics concerning the software aspect of the Nintendo Switch, about 3 million have been sold alone for Pokémon Sword & Pokémon Shield since the duo’s launch less than a month ago. Super Mario Odyssey broke 3.5 million sold, Super Smash bros. Ultimate for 8 million, and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe selling about 8.5 million in the Americas.
Reflecting on the previous announcement earlier this year which revealed the console’s overall sales already breaking 34 million sold, it wouldn’t be farlandish to presume that roughly 40 percent of sales for this generation for Nintendo is comprised solely of the Americas, but more specific the United States. Even more impressive, assuming that Microsoft’s Xbox One stopped counting sales around the same metric, the newer Switch could potentially overtake that number from Xbox One by the end of this current standing hardware generation.
