Over the past few months, chatter has only grown surrounding Bethesda’s Starfield. In February, it was reported that the Xbox-owned publisher is preparing a big announcement for its latest space odyssey IP. According to insiders, the plan is to announce a PlayStation 5 port with intent to ship the game in April the month after the reveal. It was soon confirmed by Bethesda that a PlayStation 5 version of Starfield is in fact real and aims the release date for April 7th.

Additionally, a Nintendo Switch 2 version is still underway as well. Accurate leaker NateTheHate indicated that the project is underway at Bethesda. It is told the version needs extra time due to the translation to the newer system. Other Starfield news comes from the game’s composer where he reveals that Todd Howard’s confidence in the IP is present with several years of content understood to be very possible.

Now with the game shipping this week, new information gathered on the PlayStation Store reveals that Starfield is the latest Xbox title to be leading in pre-orders on its competitor’s storefront. In both the United States as well as United Kingdom, Starfield Premium Edition sits at first place. The title outpaces other anticipated releases like Capcom’s Pragmata, Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight, and 007 First Light.

What comes as a bigger surprise is the timing for one PlayStation exclusive release – Saros. The Housemarque title is set to ship later in April on the 30th, but the game is currently being beaten in pre-orders by Starfield. Recently, Sony Interactive Entertainment has been in headlines recently as reports point towards Saros being one of the first PlayStation games to not expect a PC release later on.

The history of Xbox’s multiplatform titles shipping on the PlayStation Store is setting records. Previously, we saw the release of Forza Horizon 5 lead in sales in both US & EU at the time alongside other high performers like Minecraft, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, Doom: The Dark Ages and Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 as well. Are you surprised how Starfield is performing on the PlayStation Store currently?

Starfield ships on April 7, 2026 for PlayStation 5; out now for Xbox Series X|S & PC.
