Xbox Recorded To Sell Better At Launch For Helldivers 2 Over PlayStation 5

Although only been standing with two installments spanning across a decade, the release of Helldivers 2 has remained a flagpole IP on PlayStation for the past year. In our review, we wrote: “Arrowhead’s Helldivers 2 is an addictively fun co-op shooter that delivers explosive thrills and laughs, when it works at least. […] But it is indeed a worthy successor to the original game, and a great homage to the sci-fi space action genre.”

And when it came to learn Xbox would be joining the fight for Super Earth, many were ready to arm up on the opposing console. Paired with a Legendary Warbond that draws from Halo 3: ODST, it is no question things were being taken seriously. Already, it was revealed that about 500K concurrent players jumped into Helldivers 2 came its release on Xbox, according to CEO Shams Jorjani.

More recently, new developments also pinpointed that Helldivers 2 is in first place for Xbox ‘Top Selling’ releases in the weeks following. But new information reveals that engagement for Helldivers 2 actually outperforms traffic on its home platform. Alinea Analytics reports that Xbox actually generated more sales at launch than PlayStation 5 did at the same time last year.

“PlayStation published Helldivers 2 on Xbox on the same day as the Gears Reloaded launch. As of yesterday (six days after launch), Helldivers 2 landed 926K copies on Xbox. The pent-up demand for this incredible game speaks for itself. In fact, the PlayStation version had sold 633K copies six days after launching last year.” Within the first week, Xbox sold roughly 300,000 more units than the PlayStation 5 version did then.
