Although a beloved and certainly recognized IP, Final Fantasy’s identity has been synonymous with PlayStation for decades. However, recent internal calibrations at Square Enix are starting to change history. In 2023, the publisher pledged to support Xbox with its library of titles. And in 2024, the firm furthered its commitment with further investment into the initiative.
So far, this has already borne fruit of its labor. Titles like Final Fantasy XIV Online shipped on Xbox. This past June, players witnessed the addition of Final Fantasy XVI to the Xbox Store as well. And today, it was confirmed that Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade is coming later in January alongside a Nintendo Switch 2 version too.
Additionally, one rumor from credible leaker Nate the Hate issued that both Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade alongside its sequel Final Fantasy VII Rebirth will be aiming for an Xbox release. On Friday, Square Enix has confirmed that it is not stopping with just the one game and all three of the Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy will be multiplatform-available titles.
“Another common question about the game is whether the entire Final Fantasy VII remake trilogy is coming to Switch 2 and Xbox. We can confirm that yes they are – we’ll have more information about Final Fantasy VII Rebirth and the in-development third game in the future,” Square Enix clarifies in its recent press release.
This isn’t to say that the firm is disappointed with the relationship with PlayStation. Square Enix has clarified that the publisher is fairly satisfied with how the game performed on PlayStation 5 back in January 2025. But, it does not plan to continue this release trend for future releases and its most popular blockbusters. You can read the full report by heading here.
