It is to assume that the God of War series is at its height unlike any other time before now. In 2025, Sony revealed that the series is the PlayStation franchise with the most engagement from its library. As a result, the PlayStation firm during the recent State of Play showcase revealed two new games – God of War: Sons of Sparta & God of War Trilogy Remake. Not to mention reports on the underwraps Cory Barlog new title in incubation too.
On another plane of media, Amazon Prime Video is finally in motion for the God of War television series. The streamer previously casted actors Ryan Hurst (Sons of Anarchy, The Walking Dead) as well as Teresa Palmer (Warm Bodies) are to star in the series as Kratos & Sif respectively. Reports also pinpointed filming to kick off around this time so first-looks for the series would also surface as expected.
Now after Amazon officially unveiled what stars Ryan Hurst & Callum Vinson will look like in the TV series. In response, game creator David Jaffe reveals he is certainly unhappy with the choices made provided from what we’ve seen so far. You can watch his reaction video below:
“I’m sure everybody’s trying real hard, [but] it’s so dumb. But let’s be incredibly clear, okay? Two things can be true. This can be a terrible image, and it is. It’s so bad in so many ways, which we’ll talk about in a moment. And Ron Moore is awesome, who is the showrunner. This guy is a juggernaut of a talented fellow. I have absolutely no doubt it is going to be a good show,” Jaffe expressed in the video.
He continues with his biggest gripe, Kratos’ portrayal: “Kratos in this pose with this expression, not the guy’s face, but this expression, he just looks stupid. If you’re going to reveal, to most people, a brand new character that you hope is going to carry your series, for the first time, and they’ve never really seen this before, and this is the way you introduce them?”
For sure, Jaffe’s response does not cement the show is already a lost cause. In fact, there is still potential to be a hit like the massive success that is Fallout at Amazon. In comparison, Steve Downes during the initial airing for Halo praised the portrayal of Master Chief, but we know how that series panned out. You can read the full report by heading here.
